PEEKrings by Pyramid Cycle Design

Pyramid Cycle Design is run by Dr Mark Pharaoh.  All our products are handmade by Mark in our workshop in Coventry.

Mark is a thermoplastics composites expert who worked as a senior research fellow at Warwick Manufacturing Group for nearly 20 years.  His work at WMG was mainly on aerospace and motor industry projects.  Mark left WMG in December 2011 and set up a composites consultancy business, Pyramid Composite Design. In addition to his consultancy work, Mark is working on a number of specialist cycling projects, including developing the concept for PEEKrings in 2013.

PEEKrings were used by Cycling Australia's track cycling team at the Rio Olympics, including by the silver medal winning men's team pursuit team. For more information on Pyramid Cycle Design's involvement in this project, see our press release.

PEEKrings were also used by Dame Sarah Storey in her hour record attempt in February 2015, at the 2015 paracycling world championships and a number of time trials in 2016.

PEEKrings are lighter, stiffer and have less rolling friction that standard chainrings.  They are more durable than other composite chainrings.  We can make any size of ring up to 60 teeth and any BCD.  We also make custom oval chainrings which arematched to the rider's power data.

We are very grateful for the help of Suprem, OSG, DJM Engineering, KAMM Design and the National Composites Centre in getting PEEKrings off the ground.
